Itinerary for a Trip to Junagadh – Sasan Gir National Forest

Though Junagadh is not very common place for all tourists visiting Gujarat it is considered as one of the best offbeat tourist destinations by those who are looking for something different. The best way to reach Junagadh City is through rail. Junagadh is connected to Rajkot, Ahmadabad and Veraval by Train Services. Those who are approaching Junagdh from Ahmadabad can also avail road journey. The total distance between Ahmadabad and Junagadh is 300 KM which can be covered in 5-6 hours time. Junagadh is connected to Ahmadabad through the express train Veraval-Jabalpur Express. Palace-on-Wheels, the heritage train, also stops at Junagadh so that visitors could enjoy visiting various historic monuments and ancient places of Junagadh.

Uparkot

It is better to start early morning from Ahmadabad so that you could reach Junagadh before lunch. Breakfast can be taken at Ahmadabad or during traveling. Junagadh tourist places include Damodar Kund, Uparkot and Rock Edicts of Emperor Ashoka. Lunch can be taken before starting for the local sightseeing or after completing them. Early evening, you can start for Sasan Gir which is only 60 KM away from Junagadh and can be reached in 2 hours time. After having night stay in hotels/guest houses, early morning jeep safari can be planned. Jeep Safari can be arranged by the hotels or there are private tour operators for the same. During Safari, visitors can get to see animals like Blue Bull, Jackal, Wolf, Black buck and the Asiatic Wild Ass.

Bhalka Tirth in Somnath

Rann of Kutch is the only place in India where Asiatic Wild Ass is seen. After coming back to hotel for lunch, the next destination is Somnath Temple which is about 1 hour drive from here. After visiting world-famous Somnath Temple and enjoying the Light & Sound Show there, it is time to return back to Sasan Gir before dinner. Another place to visit in Somnath is Bhalka Tirth, the place where Lord Krishna died after an arrow penetrated his soul. After having breakfast next morning, journey to Ahmadabad will start. The standard tour package would be around Rs. 7000 - 8000 for twin sharing. Service taxes would be charged extra. The jeep safari cost is not inclusive in the tour charge. The best time to go for this tour is from August to March.

Itinerary for a Trip to Bhuj – White Desert

Bhuj is well connected to other parts of Gujarat as well as other states of India. It is also connected to major cities of Gujarat. One way to reach Bhuj is from Ahmadabad. The approximate distance between Bhuj and Ahmadabad is 400 KM which requires 10 hours drive. It is better to start very early morning if private vehicle is hired otherwise try taking the first bus so that you are able to reach Bhuj in time. Breakfast and Lunch can be taken on the way or breakfast packets can be carried. After reaching Bhuj, take an hour’s time to relax and having delicious snacks and get refreshed in the hotel. Evening you can enjoy shopping or you can just wander around the places near to your hotel. Bhuj has Artist villages where you get to see some of the best handicraft and handloom items. Buy them to take home or to gift your friends and relatives.

Vijay Vilas Palace in Mandvi

The next day is the tour to Mandvi which is located 60 KM away from Bhuj and would require 1-2 hours drive. You can start for this journey after having your breakfast. You will have to stay for some hours in Mandvi to enjoy its colorful beach and participate in some of the beach activities. On the way to Mandvi, you can visit 72 Jinalaya. After relaxing on Mandvi Beach, you can also visit Vijay Vilas Palace and the Kranti Tirth.

Have authentic Gujarati Cuisine in the restaurants nearby and start for Rann of Kutch after finishing your sumptuous lunch. It will take 3 hours drive to reach Rann of Kutch from Bhuj by road as the distance between these two places is 150 KM approximately. At Rann of Kutch, you will be able to enjoy some of the best moments of your life when you watch beautiful sunset there. Spend some time looking at the horizon and enjoying the stretches of white sand. Start for Bhuj and you will reach by dinner time. Relax and enjoy your sleep at the hotel to get refreshed for the next day.

Prag Mahal in Bhuj

The first destination on this day is Mata No Madh, which is about 90 KM from Bhuj. Have you breakfast early to start the journey early. Your destination is Ashapura Mata Temple, the main deity of Jadeja clan. After offering your prayers, start for Narayan Sarovar which is a sacred lake with a temple of Lord Vishnu located nearby. Narayan Sarovar is only 60 KM from Ashapura Mata Temple and you can stay here for some time, visit the temple and have your lunch. The nest destination is Koteshwar where you get to see Lord Shiva Temple. From here you can come back Bhuj before dinner time. The next day is the journey from Bhuj to Ahmadabad. If you have some extra day in hand, go for local tourist spots like Durbar Gadh, Kutch Museum, Jama Masjid, Prag Mahal, Swaminarayan Mandir and Aina Mahal.

The tour packages offered by the tour operators generally have journey dates in the period of August to March. The approximate cost of tour package per person is about Rs. 11,000 on twin sharing basis. The tour cost for a child without extra bed will be approximately Rs. 6000.

Itinerary for a Trip to Dwarka and Somnath

Gujarat is an important seat for the Hindu and Jain devotees. Dwarka and Somnath are two very important religious places in Gujarat dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva respectively. A two-three days tour covering Dwarka and Somnath is an ideal short weekend vacation one could enjoy in Gujarat. Visitors can arrive at Jamnagar and then start their journey towards Dwarka. Jamnagar is well connected through rail and road to various parts of Gujarat and adjoining states.  The journey from Dwarka to Jamnagar takes 4 hours as the distance is about 150 KM. After visiting the Temple of Dwarkadhish or Lord Krishna, you will certainly feel satisfied spiritually. The entire day you can relax at the temple premise and enjoy the beach.

The next day morning you plan for Bet Dwarka which is a small island which can be reached in a boat. You can enjoy nature walk at Bet Dwarka. While returning back, you must not miss Nageshwar Mahadev Mandir which has one of the twelve Jotirlingas of Lord Mahadev. The Jagat Temple, sanctum of Dwarkadhish Temple, is believed to be constructed 2500 years before. Other places you can enjoy visiting are Gomati Ghat, Rukmini Devi Mandir, dedicated to wife of Lord Krishna, when you come back to Dwarka. Rukmini Devi Temple was constructed during 12th-13th Century AD.   Start your journey for Somanth in the evening. Somnath is located about 240 KM away from Dwarka and it takes 5-6 hours to reach there.

Sasan Gir National Park

During the journey you can stop at Temple of Harsiddh Mata and enjoy panoramic views of the magnificent Arabian Sea. After reaching Somnath in the late evening, you can enjoy visiting the temple that overlooks the Arabian Sea. Another place you can visit is Bhalka Tirth where Lord Krishna got cremated. Your return journey can be planned through Rajkot which is a 4 hours journey from Somnath. Rajkot is also an important getaway for the people who plan a visit to Sasan Gir National Park. A local tour of Rajkot City can be planned if you can avail an extra day during your tour. Rajkot is a busy city but has no dearth of important tourist places.
