Statue of Unity

The Statue of Unity is located on the river island called Sadhu Bet facing the Narmada Dam near Rajpipla in Gujarat. Designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar, the statue is conceived as a naturalistic depiction of Sardar Patel in characteristic garb in a walking pose.
The project was handed to Larsen & Toubro in October 2014 and was completed in just 33 months. Built at a cost of Rs 2,989 crore, it required 22,500 Mton of cement, 5,700 Mton of structural steel, and 18,500 Mton of reinforcement to build this larger than a life-sized statue to honor first Deputy Prime Minister of India.
At present, the 182-meter Statue of Unity is the world's tallest statue. It is 23 metre taller than China's Spring Temple Buddha statue and almost double the height of the Statue of Liberty (93 metre tall) in US. The statue is expecting a daily footfall of around 15,000 tourists.

The statue can withstand wind velocity up to 60 metres a second, vibration and earthquake.

A 128 room, 3-star hotel facility with food service, guest amenities, and conference facilities is being built next to the statue which is expected to attract tourists to the region.
